  • "Mannerheim Line" - a 1940 Soviet documentary

A pretty good Soviet documentary about the Winter War, released in 1940. If one can get over the mandatory scenes with Commissars explaining the party line, there are lots of T-26's and T-28's shown from all angles, heavy guns including the rail platform-mounted TM-1-180, airplanes and AA machineguns, engineers blowing up dragon's teeth and of course destroyed bunkers.

The video is supposed to have English subs but the author seems to have become lazy after the first 5 minutes of not very precise translation and just occasionally made short comments. Better than nothing, though.

I seem to have posted my reply in the wrong thread. How i did it, beats me!

I think you can see a SMK tank at 4 minutes flat!

Indeed - somehow it evaded my attention.

      Here's another pic of it

The only SMK took part in fighting around the Hottinen area on December 17. Two days later it hit a mine and stopped cold in the depth of enemy positions. An attempt to drag the tank back to Soviet positions was unsuccessful because of heavy Finnish mortar and machinegun fire. It was only recovered after the peace agreement in March 1940.

Another "classic" is 1944 movie К вопросу о перемирии с Финляндией which was shot in Karelian Isthmus during summer 1944.

Here's a picture from a round table on the Winter War and look what everyone's looking at

There was a discussion what tank it was and one guy pointed out it was a T-100 - a real Unicorn Man sighting, given that it was the only such tank ever produced.

SMK has a flat rear, as on the picture you've posted, while T-100 has a sloping one:

You can see it at 3.58-3.59
