    Paul
    ‘Tis said his form is tiny, yet
    All human ills he can subdue,
    Or with a bauble or medal
    Can win mans heart for you;
    And many a blessing know to stew
    To make a megloamaniac bright;
    Give honour to the dainty Corse,
    The Pixie is a little shite.

      Ha-ha-ha....
      Looks somebody used Google translator for direct translation.

      Russian word "корпус" can have at least 2 meanings
      a) (in the case of some vehicle, or equipment) - Hull
      b) (in the case of military unit) - Corps

      So, in your case
      21st Corps Cannon Artillery Regiment was reorganised into the 5th Guards Cannon Artillery Regiment

      (Pape...he-he.... is a bit transformed of Russian "пап" abbreviation meaning Cannon Artillery Regiment)

      Regards
      Alex

          Sometimes http://www.lingvo.com/ is better for translating words

            Or just post it here in the original Russian. There are a few of us who can translate Russian text into English - as long as it not too forbidding in length

              It's pages and pages (teatrskazka.com/Raznoe/). Far too much to expect someone other than myself to do. The translator that comes with IE can do the whole page at a time but you get things like 'HULL' that I don't understand.

              I'm mainly interested in things under brigade sized on these pages. Seems I'm having lots of trouble finding this stuff in all the sources I have.

                I translate books on the GPW from Russian to English. I know of an awesome widget that I would share. I have software, paid and licensed and expensive that does not do as good a job.

                There is a huge volume of jargon that you just have to know. It's all about context.

                I have what I call my tripod theory. If you know two legs, you can figure out the third. One leg is knowledge of the language. A second leg is knowledge of the subject. It's up to you to find the third leg, translation, comprehension and understanding. I can do it. If I can, so can you.

                Go have some fun.

                Ignorance is not the lack of knowledge. It is the refusal to learn.
