I saw it yesterday, on March 29th, 2009.

The movie was shown by the most popular russin tv channel - Channel "1". It was shown at 9.45 PM at sunday, after the evening weekly news.

The movie shows russian point-of-view about the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008 - how it was.

An American scientist, an ethnic Russian, goes to S. Ossetia to search for batterflies. His former friend, a Russian girl-journalist, also goes to S. Ossetia. They meet there and suddenly find themselves right in the middle of the war...

Here what a russian reporter, who was there in August 2008, has written about it.

He got a mission from his chief in his newspaper - to watch the movie and to write about his impression as he really had been there in august.

He has written that after first 30-40 minutes he couldn't sit. He began to move along his flat. It looked like he again was there. He began to recall those events. It lookes like the movie is very truthful.

Welcome on board, please share your favorite russian war movies here with us.

I noticed that a lot of the russian war classic's have been released in China,
              some with english subtitles.
I bought the STRAFBAT miniseries from China, and I was delighted it contained english Subtitles.
Also the remake of "AT DAWNS IT'S QUITE UP HERE"
this one had no english subtitles, but was in russian language with Mandarin
              or Shzezuan subtitles.

              • I have just seen the brand new Russian historical movie "Taras Bulba".

It is about Cossacks in XVI Century, it is based on classical novel by N.Gogol.

It is realluy great, it is one of the best movies of the last years.

Very many excellent actors played in it.

Strongly recommend to watch it to everyone.

                  • In Soviet time they did not shoot Taras Bulba (Poland still in Varsava Pact). But when I was a child in Vietnam, they taught me Taras Bulba of Gogol in the school, I still dont know why.

I've seen the Movie, it was well done.
Was it based on actual facts, or is the story fictional.
I know the Georgians started this War.
