  • I understand. I have seen all the movies on your list.

I love "They Fought For the Motherland" but I always thought it pictured the action as too fake -especially the PTRD guns, from that scene it looks like they are hand-held 50mm cannons and not PTRD!

      • Re: WE ARE FROM FUTURE

Overall I quite enjoyed this movie, I believe it was made to build a bridge to the younger generation. Bringing the past closer to home.
And I believe it worked. Because in the last quarter of the movie, i too was moved and shed a few tears.

        • Has somebody already seen new movie "Riorita" by Peter Todorovsky (Russia, 2008)? Is it a good movie to spent time for it?

Description (sorry, only in Russian): http://fenixclub.com/index.php?showtopic=51048&hl=

          Several photos: http://ruskino.ru/mov/10683/photo/4092

The film-maker took part in GPW as an infantry officer; so, I think he can not show very unrealistic things :-)

It looks very promising, is it a movie or miniseries ?
            I'm just watching APOSTOL http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185446
A very suspensefulminseires about Twin Brothers, one is working as a german spy, who gets captured in 1943. I don't speak russian, but a russian Lady friend is helping me around. This is not a cheapscript or production.
Now RIORITA Ddoes not correspond on the imdb.com yet, like KONVOY PQ-17
was mever posted on the imdb, or am I wrong.
Usually I post russian movie titles in my ebay wish lists, and usuaklly they pop up there after a few weeks or month.

To be an officer in GPW means to be at least 81-year-old guy now, doesn't it?

This is a movie 01:37 long. You can not find it in imdb.com probably because it is quite new movie (2008). But there are other his movies: www.imdb.com/name/nm0865421/

                • I just watched "Kin Dza Dza" (1986). It is not a war movie but is really, really good.

                  www.youtube.com/galabir has it.

It is scifi, like a less complex "Stalker" maybe.

I have watched several pieces in Youtube. Looks like a good movie. I was just a little bit shocked by the character(s) played by Andrey Mironov. I mean the last his movie that I watched was "Idiot", where he played Prince Myshkin. So I still keep him in mind as Myshkin:-) And when in "Apostel" he starts to use bad words, to use German lady in a very simple manner, etc., etc., this very much disagrees with my former impression... :-) Prince Myshkin may not go like this!!! :-)

                      • I like the way this site works... You get to choose what size of picture you get. And many of the free documentaries, are pretty new...

Although it's not about the Russian army (there is a documentary about Chechnya, but not more, some cold war era stuff from the wests view point, and some vietnam stuff that mentions USSR at the time too, many of these documentaries are ok, some are even very good, check it out)....

I have watched a few parts of the mini-TV-series (Russian TV Channel "1" is broadcasting it now every evening).

According my opinion it is a low quality movie.

Actors' play is very good, actors are very good but the scenario is very bad.

The uniform of the NKVD officer have got rank of Major of State Security (Lt. Colonel of Armed Forces) according his signs (3 "sleepers") but the others call him Captain.

The commands in a German Abver School for saboteurs and spies of Russian nationality are spoken in Russian (as I know they were spoken in German).

The most of images from Nazi Germany look non-real.

So my mark for "Apostel" is 2 stars from 5.

"Zvezda" ("Star") and "Peregon" ("Tranzit") are much better.

                              P.S.
But "actors' play is very good" - You are right
However I could not watch one series even
"In case of war guys in dark blue berets will be thrown in a mouth to an aggressor on purpose to break off this mouth"
Vasily Margelov the father-founder of the Soviet airborne troops

Watch this youtube trailer, it looks
awesome. Looks like another movie about the russian civil war, in the tradition of ADMIRAL KOLCHAK
                                and Gibel Imerij.
Please post here if anyone knows a place that sells the DVD or Blue Ray.
I would love to watch this special effet loaded movie on Blue Ray.
