  • In 1919 during the Civil War a group of sailors (Reds) went to defend St Petersburg from Yudenich's troops (Whites).

It is a good movie but it is a propaganda movie and doesn't show the reality.

    • I have just watch a few parts of "The Unknown War" - it is a very good documentary which combined best traditions of the Soviet and Western documentaries.

For those of us (ie me) who are historically challenged on this time period, could you give us an brief idea what event this movie depicts? Trailer is taking forever to load btw.

          Thank you.

Direct links to the trailers: http://files.kinoros.ru/f01/1612/video/1612_tv1_s.avi and http://files.kinoros.ru/f01/1612/video/1612_tv2_s.avi, and also http://www.kino-teatr.ru/video/30/download/. But anyway, they are in Russian only :-( I hope, the official DVD release will contain English subtitles also.

This movie depicts so called "Time of Troubles" in Russia, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_of_Troubles.

The movie is directed by Vladimir Hotinenko. He says that he did not intend to depict the historical realities in 100% but rather wanted to stimulate interest to the history of Russia. Let's wait a little and see what is the result :-)

If it was air attack, what was the most reasonable decision to gather in one place, or to disperse? Every man more or less experienced in military subject will answer - to disperse. The authors of the movie was SO MUCH dumbs, that couldn't invent nothing more except gathering all the people to the bus.
Hey, maybe they thought the bus could fly away, or obtain armor like Tiger tank?

So, never take this movie as reality. It had nothing common with it.

Mmmh, now I get the Vodka-View, suppoted by a range of emoticons.
No offense, but it looks like you had a few, and you must have really believe
that the moviemaker Aleksandr Buravsky is a compleate amateur,
Have you ever looked at his record:
              http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0120729/
Or you are an historic scholar.
A military expert, I'm not sure, a veteran soldier might let you in on
              a secret:
"In war nothing is predictable, and nothing ever goes according to plan"
So when I watched " Leningrad", I never stumbled over that scene, but I thought : The officer who ordered to board the bus, must be an pencilpusher
Officer, to issue such a stupid order.
History is full of blunders, or are you trying to tell me russian Officers
in WW2 would never ever commit stupidities like that.
I stay to my opinion, you have to try a little bit harder to convince me,
that this movie is "trash", because I believe it was quite well done.

                • The premiere of this movie will be only on the 1st of November, and I think it will not be distributed (officially) on DVDs during first several months.

Let's wait a little. Of course, they have collected the most impressive scenes for the the trailers. The rest of the movie can be much lower...

                  • During the last days, several reviews appeared about '1612'. One of them has been published in 'Vzglyad' newspaper: www.vz.ru/culture/2007/11/5/122230.html (sorry, it is in Russian but you can try to translate it using Google). Very disappointing review...

                      1. I don't understand what you are doing. You gave the link on ABSOLUTELY unknown source. I have never heard about this newspaper.

                      2. There is a Russian State Holiday - the Day of the People Unity. Itis November, 4th. It is a new holiday, we have been celebrating it since last year.

On November, 4th of 1612 Russian People Militia under the command of Minin and Pozharskii liberated Moscow from Polish invaders. The movie describes those events. The list of the actors is very impressive.

Vladimir Khotinenko is known by his movies "72 meters" and "Transit". Both are excellent.

                      • 1) Andrey, maybe this newspaper is "ABSOLUTELY unknown" in Omsk, but it is well-known in Moscow and SPb. Of course, it has not so large circulation if compare with the yellow press, but is known among the serious public.

                        2) I am quite agree :-)

                        3) Have you already seen this movie? People say that Minin does not appear there at all, Prince Pozharskij appears only in 2 short episodes, and there is nothing about liberation of Moscow on November 4th. Just a 2nd-class copy of a 2nd-class Hollywood action movie with love story... I expected something else...

I also know the previous movies by Hotinenko ('Moslem'...) but it looks like his talent got spoiled in the present case :-(

See yourself the movie and then write about it. Don't spread unchecked hearsays.

There were a lot of cases when my brother's opinion about a movie differed from my one absolutely.

I have impression about the most popular Russian scale newspapers that are sold in Omsk. Komsomolskaya Pravda, Izvestia, Argumenty i facty and so on. I have never seen "Vzgliad". If it is a local newspaper like "Evening Omsk" (I am 100% sure you can't read it in Moscow or SpB) so I don't trust to unknown sources. I prefer "Komsomolskaia Pravda".

I did not pretend to show my on opinion :-) I just wrote that the most of the reviews are not positive. The person who wrote the referred review have watched the movie, of course. So, I did not 'spread unchecked hearsays' :-)

"Vzgliad" is the newspaper for businessmen. So, you will of course rarely see it in a street kiosk, especially in Omsk :-)

To spread opinions of the people whose competence and unbiaseness is unknown means to spread hearsays.
