  • A Bit of Russian Cartographic History

    Greetings:

The attached map is an interesting bit of Russian WWII map history. The original printing plates are Russian. They were captured by the Germans in 1941 at Minsk and also Kharkov. They were then shipped to Riga, Latvia, to a German map department. The Germans added western letters in a different color and distributed them to army units. On the lower left corner of the map you will see the name Riga. I had heard of these maps but had never seen one.

    Regards,

    John
