  • Favorite Russian Wartime Song

What is your favorite Russian wartime song? As much as I like "the Sacred War" for the sheer manliness of the tune, I am ultimately a sucker for Katyusha, though I doubt the English translation does the song much justice, doesn't even really fit with the tune which is a shame. Below is the best version I have found, beautiful face, beautiful voice

    Sacred War.

Oh noes! Well we all like these mighty cheesy 80'es, but this must be a secret confession, right?

The song's Sacred War and, I'm of course partial here, Leningrad Drinking song (originally "Our Toast" with praise of Stalin).

I like so many of them, but I have two not mentioned yet which I find difficult to chose from:
          • "Farewell of Slavianka", as anybody can attest who has ever been loved by a Slavic woman
          • "The Samovars" for the sheer vivacity of Russian soldiers.

You may not be interested in War, but War is interested in You - Leon Trotski, June 1919.

As a tanker I have a place in my heart for "Три танкиста"

Armored shock battalions running over samurais for the Motherland in the Far East, what's not to love?

And probably the saddest tank song ever:

              Кто там?
              Это я - Почтальон Печкин!
              Tunis is a Carthigenian city!
