  • Was There a Tukhachevsky Rebellion or Not?

Is there any shred of evidence, however small, that the Red Army indeed plotted a rebellion against Stalin in 1936/37 and that Tukhachevsky was the leader of the conspirators?

We realize much of the Great Purge was based on paranoia...but not all of it was paranoia. Stalin had a lot of enemies, imagined and real.

    1. As I know there was no Tukhachevsy's conspiracy.

    2. I think it was not Stalin's paranoia. But

    - the elimination of all who were potential enemies against Stalin's rule
    - the elimination of the "old Bolshevicks" who were not loyal to Stalin or were loyal not enough. (They knew and remembered truth about the events on high level of Soviet leadership during the revolution and the Civil war so they could resist against new myths about Stalin's role in the revolution and the civil war.)
    - the making of the atmosphere of scare to speak something against Stalin's opinion
    - to show to the ordinary people that enemies were everywhere so Stalin and Soviet political system was not responsible for the mistakes

Stalin knew that all those charges were false and only the justification to eliminate the high level persons whom he wanted to eliminate.

To date there is no evidence of such a conspiracy, nor will any legitimate evidence of any such thing be found.

He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" - with his mouth". Mark Twain

He is an interesting character though...he is mentioned in Toland's book about Hitler....something about Germany being in on the conspiracy to eliminate the General....not sure on all of the facts though...I think most of the charges was bogus..does anyone know for sure if his daughter lived through the war?
