    AMVAS,

The USSR had a far larger number of Divisions than those listed.

I wonder what they based those numbers on.

    Regards,

    Craig
Search in the past, for there you will find your future.

      Hi, Craig!

If you noticed I give no comments to this figures and posted them for observation and maybe discussion. I myself never thorough investigated global statistics. My occupation is tactical and maybe partly strategic level.
Of course, there can be some inexactness and erratum
So for this figures are responsible creators of the site cited in the head of the topic

        Re: Some general WW2 statistics

        This data is utterly obsolete.

        USSR 12.000.000 17.000.000 29.000.000

Should be 9,000,000 18,000,000 27,000,000 (obviously, controversial, but this is based on most reliable calculations).

        Poland 597.000 5.860.000 6.200.000

I doubt it. Poland did not suffer that many military deaths. Even if you include the POW mortality.

        Germany 3.250.000 2.440.000 5.690.000

This is the very first estimate done by Arntz way back in 47, IIRC. Demographic analysis points to at least 4 million military deaths. Ruediger Overmans's statistical analysis shows over 5 million military fatalities.

        USSR 194 200 220 250 350 400 488 491

The numbers here are incorrect. Moreover, regardless of the magnitude, the number of divisions in 1940 cannot be so close to the number of divisions in 1939. That's because during the mobilization of 1939 triple deployment divisions actually became deployed into 3 divisions each (of significantly reduced strength, of course).

          Thank you, Oleg
I also have doubts about some figures, that's why I posted them for discussion
