  • Ideas for a "sticky" thread for the RKKA forum.

A lot of us have noticed that the same questions get brought up again and again. Some of us like busting people up over them but I think most of us are tired of it. Regardless I think a sticky Information thread on the Eastern Front / the Great Fatherland War should be made for this section of the forum. I am willing to contribute to it if some of you are willing to work on it with me. Here are some of the questions that I think come up most frequently:

What If Japan attacked the USSR in 1941.

What if Army Group Center didn't help out Army Group South in 1941.

    What if Barbarossa started earlier.

What are "Human Waves" was it normal, did it happen at all?

What is "tank ramming" was it normal, did it happen at all?

What were blocking detachments, what did they do?

Could the USSR win without Lend-Lease?

Who helped the Nazis in the USSR, how big was collaboration?

    So how 'bout it?

Clarification: This can be people's own conclusions based on research or to-the-point exerpts from books/publications that people feel would work well.

I think the basic notion of having stickies for the subjects that keep coming up again and again (ad nauseum) is a sound idea, worthy of support. However, I'm not so sure it would work very well trying to cover so many topics in one thread. It would likely become rather jumbled, I think.

Perhaps two or more of the headings you have mentioned could be combined into one thread somehow? We would need to think of a cover title for the thread - shouldn't be too hard, though.
"England expects that every man will do his duty!" (English crew members had better get ready for a tough fight against the combined French and Spanish fleets because that's what England expects! However, Scotland, Wales and Ireland appear to expect nothing so the Scottish, Welsh and Irish crew members can relax below decks if they like!)

Can you have a sticky with a list of relevant threads and the heading or a quick summary as to what the thread is about ? The heading or summary would tell you what it's about and the link would take you to the thread.

This would give us all somewhere to go either as newbies or for later reference.

Yeah, that's an idea as well.

          Hi,
I'll try to give you some answers...

Yes, this idea I have in mind, but really not so many topics to be sticky ones.
Otherwise we'll get a pack of sticky threads which fills in all the title page of the forum. It's not good to my opinion

What If Japan attacked the USSR in 1941.

What if Army Group Center didn't help out Army Group South in 1941.

          What if Barbarossa started earlier.
"what if..." subjects can be discussed as ordinary topics. No need to stick them

What are "Human Waves" was it normal, did it happen at all?
Like in many cases answer to this question lays between two opposite opinions...Again no need to stick this thread, as it's hard to proove any point of view. Or you have some statistics at hand?
Memoirs are not enough to be sure in anything. And German ones are filled with many unprooved statements. Can't say Soivet ones are free from myths as well...

What is "tank ramming" was it normal, did it happen at all?
No, it was not normal. They were exception. but they did take place.
This is complete resume of the topic...

What were blocking detachments, what did they do?
Their main mission was to gather retreating troops, organize them and return back to the frontline. Shots also could take place, but not massive. they chose the most panic-making elements. It was necessary to stop the others... "Evil blocking detachment" image is much darkened by propaganda...
hope this is enough to answer...

Could the USSR win without Lend-Lease?
Endless topic without any chances to be prooved/disproved.
To my opinion it would be much more hard to the USSR to stay. but nobody knows exactly what oculd be...

Who helped the Nazis in the USSR, how big was collaboration?
The main assistance Nazies got from the Baltic nations and nations, who suffered much form the Soviet regime (for example from Chechens, who conducted their own war against the Soviets since 1920s)
Among Russian collaboration movement there were lots of people, who sufferd from the Soviet regime either themselves, or their relatives...
remembering repressions of 1930s those were more than enough...

I think no need to open sticky threads on every subject...

          Regards
          Alex

Well first of all I meant that it would be ONE sticky thread with multiple topics.

the What if Japan attacked come up at least 3-4 times that I've seen, and the same answers have been given over and over again...

Amvas: You seem to treat everything as "just opinion" as if nothing can be proven or dis-proven, or as if a respected author's/specialist's opinion based on research is equal to any random forumite's....I disagree.

                Im all for it!
I dont have the knowledge to participate with anything but the idea is a good one.

And Alex, I think Emil is thinking about this way:
                http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/u...;f=52;t=000548

One tread that links to the rest. Then you dont clogg the forum upp and you can by time add treads that have been extra intressting as well.

Yes, this way is much better than many sticky ones...
However I'm still thinking their subject must be filtered much

                      How about This:
"All Surviving veterans of Krasnaya Armiya report here"
Or their sons and daughters, or the opposite side.

Everyone, thanks for the support. Lets see if Alex warms up to it a little more.

Re Alex's thread: Well, not what I had in mind but it's a start. I mean, I doubt anyone is really going to look through these huge threads for answers. What I wanted was more of a FAQ style of document.

It contains the url of this thread...

It was meant as an example of what you might like to do - if interested.

Admiral, yes something like that. As a further comment to amvas' thread - I don't think threads with flame wars and troll comments should be stickied.

Yes, one thread that links to the rest would be better than trying to discuss multiple topics on a single thread. Much more workable, I should think.
