Here what the "Komsomolskaia Pravda" wrote

The game against England stopped to be a sport event long ago. The whole country wanted the victory over the founders of football and it was not only because the victory only let us to keep hopes to take part in Euro Cup 2008. Everyone wanted to show to haughty England that we aren't worse but only the 11 players who were let to play in "Luzhniki" could do it.

Before the beginning an event which was worthy of to be fixed in Giuinness Records Book. The hugest Russian banner of all times was unrolled over a stand on "Luzhniki". And it contsinedalso the symbol of our country - a bear. He was so formiddable that a sensitive spectator could get "bear disease" (diarrhea from scare) right in the stand. It was sorry that the English fans couldn't see that chilling horrific bear as they were in the same stand.

From the first minutes the Russians rushed ahead. St. Petersburg's sheaf Kerzhakov - Arshavin and playing in right flank Aniukov who joined to them were the tip of our spear. They had to answer the point-blank question that had been asked by their famous countryman Fedor Dostoevskii in his "Crime and Punishment" (of course it ws asked not about the current generation of Russian National Foorball Team players): "Am I a miserable creature or I have right to demand better fate?" The foster-childs of Hiddink tried to show that they were ready to great fulfilments.

Yessss!!! This is amazing! 5 minutes and England caught two goals..

But our team can make other surprises...To loose game vs. Israel...
Still hope that won't be, but our team is unpredictable!

In any case, now congratulating our boys with really significant victory!

        Regards
        Alex

Well done Russia!!! Hey, I never expect much from England in the crunch of football matches, and it's not as if they were playing rugby (South Africa will still win though). Anyway it's not as if you all were playing a real sport, ice hockey, and Russia facing real threats like the Canada team.

It's a long time coming, and many congratulations Russia! You mentioned it was an all-Russia team; was it an even mix among clubs or did any one or two football clubs dominate the team (e.g., Zenit, Spartak, etc.)?

Well, it still happens sometimes... :-) The victory, however, has been spoiled by several bloody incidents hapened in Moscow with English football fans. It is not clear who started the fights but anyway...

Nice wording, BTW: "Russian Footbal Team won England" :-)) Aha, like William the Conqueror :-)

Wow, you know the nanes of our football teams!!!

The most of the players are from our best teams - Spartak, CSKA, Lokomotiv, Zenit. But, for example, the goalkeeper Gabulov was from "Kuban" (Rostov) which is a relatively weak team.

The most of the Russians sat nearly their TV sets in that time.

                        Congrats on the game guys!!!

Very nice to here about that for your team.

Now if you were talking about Football in the U.S., the kind I get into here, you would get a lot more. Why is it that it never caught on over there, besides other places, like say Britian?

                        Just asking here......

Have a good victory party Andrey and AMVAS, as well as others here!!

                        Cheers

Because it is very interesting and ordinary people can play it - fat and thin, tall and short. It is necessary to have only a ball, a part of clear ground and a few guys ready to play.

I myself play soccer, we have got an annual mini-soccer winter official tournament in Omsk (The Cup of "OShA" Enterprise), above 100 teams take part in.

                            Cool!!

I did'nt think of that, U.S. football is pretty specialized and for certain people only, to actually play.

On another thought, any help with Tank Guy's thread?

Cheers, stay warm when playing over there in the winter!!

My kids love soccer (futbol) and when I was in Moscow and St. Pete last spring I got them a few shirts. (The ones they sell out on the street next to Spas na Krovi don't last very long, unfortunately, but my son likes his Spartak shirt, which held up well - maybe that's a metaphor for the teams.)
