  • Stalingrad OOB

    Hi:

Can anybody tell me which volume(s) of "VERBANDE UND TRUPPEN DER DEUTSCHEN WEHRMACHT UND WAFFEN SS IM ZWEITEN WELTKRIEG 1939-1945" covers Stalingrad from August 1942 through January 1943? Do the volumes contain OOB information on corps and division, by the day?

    Regards,

    John,
    I do not think so.

But you can assume a unit (Kampgruppen level) could be swapped from one Division to the next for a specific operations.

I think this site will prove useful to you.

He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" - with his mouth". Mark Twain

        Stalingrad OOB

        Kunikov:

I may have missed it, but I can not find any OOB information for the Stalingrad period, on this site.

I have completed all the days in January and some days in August, September, October, November, and December. The OOB includes armeekorps and subordinated divisions. Once I have completed what I can at that level, I will start on regiments and battalions.

I have ordered the microfilm rolls from NARA containing the kreigstagebuch for the XI.Armeekorps and 24.Panzer-Division during Stalingrad. The armeekorps should provide daily OOB for the korps including divisions and other subordinated units. The division should include regiments and battalions.

I am looking for as many sources as possible, as there are conflicting reports of unit OOB.

        Regards,

        John

You're talking about Tessin? I believe those are just organizational histories of every unit which fought under German command (including allied). For example, volume 2 is units whose numbers begin with 1 through 5. Volume 3 is units whose numbers begin with 6-14, etc. As far as I know (and I'd like to be proven wrong), these books do not contain OOBs for operations. The entries for units do contain lists of major subordinate units, what higher headquarters the unit itself was subordinate to, and the operations they took part in.
