  • WW2 flak jackets

Just to satisfy my curiosity: does anybody know about use of flak jackets during WW2 by Germans and Allies? I know only about steel body armours used (not widely) in the Red Army: http://www.salt.orthodoxy.ru/memory/.../060314_04.jpg

I recall only their use by aircraft crew. Many remarked that they sat on rather than wore the armor jackets.

I RKKA, as I know, these were used only in assault groups when breaking well-defended German lines; never heared about their use in the Soviet aviation during WW2.

Steel jackets were used by Assault Engineer-Sapper units.
Of course they never were in use anywhere else...

If you fire a rifle at the past, the future will fire a cannon at you.....

The flak jacket (non-steel) was a Korean war innovation. Steel 'flaks' were in use in WW1 by German pioneers and our Army experiemented with them (with humorous results).
