  • Opening documents in Russian archives!

Recently an order of the Ministry of Defense of Russia appeared, by which he ordered to open almost all documents in Russian miiltary archives for the years 1941-45. but i receive very contradictive info aobut the entire procedure. Right now they are:

    i) All those docs (4 mln records!) will be opened automatically - the best case
ii) The order only initializes the common procedure of openeing, which can last for a lo-o-ong time... - the worst case.

Now I have no 100% guarantees for which scenario will be applied...
    So, I'm tracing the situation...

    Regards,
    Alex

It would be very good news if the archives were opened to all researchers. I am not holding my breath though.

I heard for the latest 10 years only 1 mln of records was opened. by this order it's planned to open 4 mln records!
