Movie Al'ka ("Klettka" on the idmb.com)

I like to recommand 4 great russian ww2 movies about female fighters:
    http://www.indb.com/title//tt0386943/
    http://www.petershop.com/de/catalogu...it-moskva.html
    http://www.petershop.com/de/catalogu...rlin/alka.html
    This one has english subtitles:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130744/
Please do not forget to vote for thode movies on the imdb.com.
This might be the only way to sway russian movie distributors tomarket those truly excellent movies with english subtitles in the west.
Alina, You are very welcome on this forum,

Thanks for the welcome and the links, Konzev. Apparently there was going to be a Night Witches movie made by an American production company with Russian actors, but I guess it fell through as it hasn't been made. It was delayed several times, I don't know what's going on with it now.

Western movies about Russians usually are very bad.

There is a Soviet movie "V nebe nochnye vedmy" ("Night Witches are in the air")

I know, I was being sarcastic. Aside from the 80s cheese appeal, it's unwatchable.

But, to be honest, other than that, Gorky Park, and Hunt For Red October, I can't think of a lot of American movies about Russians. I mean, Russians are cookie cutter villains in James Bond, but I can't think of a movie that takes them as main characters right now.

Humor and sarcasm dont seem to work well on these internet discussion boards. Something to do with the subtleties of language and culture. One has to label the joke to avoid leaving half the readers confused and the other half angry.

To return to topic; are there any documents with numbers for the women who fought in the Soviet military services? (I always have trouble with opening links posted on this site and have not yet been able to tease out the links previously posted here.)

I'm sure there are documents, somewhere, in the Soviet archives. However, I don't speak Russian, so I couldn't be any help to you on that score. What I do know is that most of the women's services were terminated at the end of the war. The regime was actually morally conservative, and as soon as the women were no longer needed, it preferred for them to go get married and be mothers.

Yes, I have that movie too, the russian version that is. I bought it last year, and rented it out 6 times. 3 of the customers where not in command of the russian language.
                        A very good movie indeed.

                            It was not conservatism.

It was saving of women for their peaceful duties, they were not to die in a combat, it was men's duty.

It is better than abn average Us movie but it contains a lot of stamps and often shows Soviet submariners fools.

There are some researches about that in Russian. AFAIK official number of women which were involve in combat actions in RKKA is 800,000. 8 % of the Red Army personnel were women for some time. Share in partisan formations was 9.8 % - 28,500 women.

As for policy - there were various ways: volunteering, direct mobilization, mobilization of civilian army employees.

BTW the first unit which met Germans in Stalingrad was female AA regiment:
                                1077th Anti-Aircraft Regiment
