  • 96 SBAP

In July 1941 the 96 SBAP was formed out of the 95 SBAP and sent to the West Front. There is no mention anywhere I can find about the regiment in the records of Memorial web site , AllAces or in List 12. Aside from a mention of this unit in posts on (http://vadimvswar.narod.ru/ALL_OUT/A.../Pe2Wpn005.htm) or Международный военный форум (International Military Forum)-(http://imf.forum24.ru/?1-28-0-000000...0-0-1359658865) I find no other mentions of this unit..can anyone provide more imformation or suggest places to look ?

    Thanks
    Michel

Most likely the unit was just called by another name. Bomber units did change names a lot. Just search for the 96th something Bomber Regiment and you are most certainly looking at the same unit.

The 96th Bomber Regiment was a part of the DBA or are you talking about the 96th Guards Bomber Regiment? Where did the original information come from?

          Ok! That is why!
It was not SBAP, but DBAP.
          Kind regards

The 96th DBAP was located at Borovskoe on 22 Jun 41 organized to shtat 15/18 with 50 DB-3F bombers, including 6 that were unserviceable. The regiment had 62 crews, but only 44 were considered qualified on their aircraft. Commander was Major A. I. Slepukhov. In November 1940 the regiment was under 35th DD Division, but on 22 Jun 41 it was under the 42nd DD Division HQ.

There was also a 96th 'Correction-Reconaissance' Regiment that served in 17th Air Army from 22 Mar 44 to the end of the war, performing artillery correction and spotting duties for the supported armies.

Sorry, that should have been (http://imf.forum24.ru/?1-4-20-000000...0-0-1358319848) Where M.Timin say that 96 SBAP was created out of 95 SBAP (not 96 DBAP). Mr. Timin is rather certain of this but provides no further details. I am hoping some one can provide further details or confirm that Timin is correct (I have no reason to doubt him)
