      First, "proof" varies per the "people" one is considering, or the "people" examining/considering the "evidence". Topic of "religion" a case in point (and maybe more related than some what to accept )*.

      There is "evidence", though some choose to ignore or disregard, and it takes a body of "evidence" usually to establish "proof". This aside from the situation where this topic embraces many areas of consideration/examination in addition to work-arounds to established biases coming from all sides.

      * Whom or What are these Gawds/Messengers coming down from the skies/heavens giving we humans assorted and mixed messages masked as "Religions" ???

          The first set of Phoenix lights was a UFO, like it or don't. There are too many people that got a pretty good look at it including several very credible eyewitnesses that could even give rough dimensions, details, and direction of movement. They could also tell you reliably it wasn't aircraft of any sort.

          The second set of lights were USAF flares over the Goldwater Bombing Range to the Southwest of Phoenix. Those were totally different and about 2 hours after the first set of lights.

            Firstly, there is no such thing as a credible witness, especially when five A-10s with formation lights were returning from Operation snowbird. So you happily accept flares in the second "incident" but dismiss the first?
            I've seen an experienced pilot of 20 years convinced a UFO was flying in tight format, and all the lights were in perfect formation. A couple of kids let off a heap of balloons with flares attached. If a pilot who has been flying for 20 years can get it wrong, I think a lot of other people would also easily get it wrong.

            • The Professional UFO Skeptic Who Believed in Aliens
              EXCERPT;

              If you're jonesing for an extraterrestrial, you should check out The Close Encounters Man by Mark O'Connell. O'Connell, a writer for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and founder of the UFO blog High Strangeness, set out to write "a UFO book people wouldn't need to hide from other people." He found his ideal subject in J. Allen Hynek, the astronomer hired by the United States Air Force in 1948 to debunk the reports of strange objects in the sky flooding in from across the country. Eventually Hynek broke with his handlers and became the first scientist to lend credence to the UFO phenomenon. The author of 1972's The UFO Experience: A Scientific Study, he would go on to found the Center for UFO Studies in 1973, present a speech on flying saucers to the United Nations in 1978, and develop the "close encounter" scale that would inspire Steven Spielberg's popular Close Encounters of the Third Kind ("a huge boon to his work," O'Connell told me. "They shot a scene where the little aliens grab Hynek's pipe from him and stick it up their noses, but it was cut down to a six-second cameo.")

              In telling the life story of Hynek, the "astro-beatnik," O'Connell winds up with a stunning panorama of the UFO movement—from fringe conspiracy theorists to amateur astronomers to agnostic scientists—as well as its colossal impact on pop culture and modern science. I recently spoke with O'Connell over the phone about Hynek's unique story of skeptic turned believer, the scientific study of the inexplicable, and what makes a good UFO witness.

                The Majestic 12 Documents Are Back…
                Nick Redfern June 16, 2017

                EXCERPT:

                Just like an over-the-hill, bloated rock band that doesn’t know when it’s time to retire and go away forever, the notorious saga of Majestic 12 is hitting the road and touring again. Will this be its final farewell? A tearful goodbye to all of its adoring fans? I sure as hell hope so, but I have grave doubts. For those who don’t know what Majestic 12 is alleged to be, a bit of background information is required. UFO researchers have suggested that when the Roswell wreckage and bodies were recovered by the U.S. military in early July 1947, they soon fell under the control of a hastily-created secret group called Majestic 12, and which is also referred to as Majic 12 and MJ12.

                Following the publication of his co-authored 1980 book The Roswell Incident, William Moore was contacted by a number of military and intelligence insiders who claimed that they wished to reveal to Moore – and ultimately to the public, the media and the world – classified data and documents on UFOs that would otherwise never see the light of day. It was as a result of this “Deep Throat”-style contact that Moore and his research partner Jaime Shandera obtained, in December 1984, a series of controversial and official-looking documents that detailed the existence and work of the allegedly Top Secret group known as Majestic 12.

                Supposedly established in 1947 by then-President Harry Truman, Majestic 12 was tasked with keeping the lid on the extraterrestrial secret while striving to understand and exploit the science and technology that had literally fallen into the hands of the U.S. Government in the desert of New Mexico. At the heart of these documents was a several-page Top Secret memorandum titled “BRIEFING DOCUMENT: OPERATION MAJESTIC 12 / PREPARED FOR PRESIDENT-ELECT DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER: (EYES ONLY) / 18 November, 1952.”

                The documents, first published in 1987 by the British author Timothy Good in his book Above Top Secret, revealed that the membership of Majestic 12 included high-ranking military personnel and senior sources within the intelligence community, as well as key scientific personnel in post-Second World War America. Understandably, the documents have been the subject of much controversy and comment, with some researchers believing them to be the real thing, while others cry hoax and/or disinformation. Further MJ12 documents surfaced in the 1990s – from a researcher named Tim Cooper. They were most remarkable for the impressive number of spelling-errors they contained. All of which brings us to the latest MJ12 collection.

                The new documents, which run to 24-pages, were recently (very recently) provided to Heather Wade of the Midnight in the Desert show. I have been on Heather’s show several times now and I like her. And when she says that she got the documents from what is described as “a trusted source,” I believe her. But, we don’t know who Heather’s source is. Nor do we know how – and under what circumstances – that same source got the documents. There is no doubt, however, that these are not the real thing.
