  • Pseudoscience-UFOs and the Paranormal

This deserves a better location then the barracks and ultimately because it involves Scientific discourse in either studying the phenom or even disproving it or revealing a hoax of science... natural and or it's liberal arts cousins in archaeology and anthropology...it belongs here. I waited a long time to start this thread. It may die a quick death....not the point.

I don't really study it...as that's defined but I do peruse it and explore it and enjoy the give and take.

    The following are some links....

Feel free to bring more and your stories and articles and comments.

If I have learned one thing...it's this... the weird crap out there generally has a sound and natural, Ala scientific rationale that can explain it's existence....but not in 100% of the cases.

So in the spirit of Science I don't immediately and arbitrarily dismiss anything. Neither should you.

I agree and hope to find time to go through those links since this stuff interests me too along the lines you outline.

But a word of advice if I may.

My experience of others here and my personal preference is that we don't respond well to information overload. It may be better to present those topics one at a time and let us discuss each one individually.

    Just a suggestion.

That's fine. I could start with any number of phenom but will leave that for others....yourself included.

Have at it and hopefully we can maintain continuity of subject matter until it's apparent to move on to another example.

This has always been an interest of mine, the more so since the attempts of the government to cover-up Roswell and similiar incidents.

I also have had personal experience with "ghosts" and therefore do not lightly dismiss them as so many people do.

Pick a specific subject and let's have at it!

Plus if you break them down it is easier to add a poll. The nice thing about that is the readers who don't participate in the discussion do often respond to a poll and that gives us more feed back.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

Agreed. And interesting point about people voting but not commenting. One topic at a time with an attached poll would be great. For myself, I'd like to hold off on voting until I've seen a lot of the discussion. Maybe we could add the poll after the discussion has run its course.

Put the poll at the beginning,so that posters can defend their viewpoints.

Why not start with Roswell? What happened at Roswell in your opinion? UFO crash, hoax or government cover-up, or any combination thereof?

Horned Skulls and Red Haired Giants

Well I'm not good with creating polls so I 'll leave that for another. But I am in Roswell...as we speak...so it's as good as any.

Otoh and in line with another site I am involved with and courtesy of a good friend there...I'll borrow some stuff from him we have commented on there. Take your pick or comment on both as they have similar applications and points of interests.

                A. The Horned Skull of Sayre, Pennsylvania.

                http://www.viewzone.com/hornedskull.html

                B. Nevada's mysterious cave of the red-haired giants.

                http://www.helium.com/items/1814848-...d-giants/print

You will find here a mix of the possible paranormal...possible examples of ET's and the more standard explanation of genetic mutations or species once prevalent now gone. It's a good application as well of a genuine effort of anthropologists and archaeologists to see thru the veil...using the cultural explanations of native Americans. These are, from all reports and investigations that I am aware of, 'real' artifacts and not some sort of FX creation.

I don't pretend to know the science of genetics here or how the eco-physical conditions of 5-1500 years ago, in specific locations and given climatic and or other factors, might be casually dismissed or indeed if they are indeed relevant.

But in these two examples we have the ''weird''.

So somebody make a decision and lets start...I'm good with Roswell or the above.

In my view Roswell was a government hoax to try to force some Soviet agents to react to something that they would feel compelled to investigate. In other words, Offensive Counter-intelligence.

Other posters made some excellent points on this same topic on the following thread:

                  http://www.armchairgeneral.com/forum...hlight=roswell

Post #2 by mrhankisthrone is one of the posts on ACG I have found most interesting:

Maybe they floated the story to test how the following would respond: 1) US military news, 2) US civilian news, 3) local law enforcement, 4) allied intelligence, and 5) enemy intelligence. Things to evaluate would be 1) alertness to the story, 2) speed of dissemination, 3) evaluation of credibility, and 4) follow-up.

It could be good preparation for many of the scientific stories bound to originate from the military that are less fantastic but for which containment of information would be more important.

I see that a discussion has been started about Roswell, where I have posted my thoughts.

We should see if possible to get sticky status on this one; and as necessary roll the threads on topic into it for better
                      management .....

request all who have posted here to do that by contacting Freight Shaker and requesting same.

                      Thanks

What I have always found most interesting, is the reports by astronauts during missions about things they saw. Presumably and pretty clearly you are dealing with absolutely reliable people.

Far more so then they are credited...but they were told to zip it by the gov.....hence more coverups.
