Maybe the Earth is an outlier?

Not many planetary systems that look like the Solar System indicating that planets with all the features of Earth may not be common at all.

Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

At this point, I don't think we have enough information to know whether other systems really look like ours or not. It's entirely possible there's lots of smaller worlds we simply can't detect yet.

Indeed the initial detection systems were only good enough to pick up gas giants. As techniques have become refined the number of rocky earth sized planets detected is beginning to increase

            A Trillion Worlds

Big-data statistics have revealed, among other things, that our own solar system is kind of an oddball.

Our Solar System Is Even Stranger Than We Thought

New research shows a pattern of exoplanet sizes and spacing around other stars unlike what we see in our own system.
