      Strange but not supernatural. Could just be a mining complex. Unlike the government, commercial operations can move pretty quickly when a few billion $ are at stake. Throw in China's lax regulatory environment and anything is possible.

      Could also be military but nothing obvious at this scale to figure out what it is.
      Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

        Fits the "unusual" category. Didn't intend this thread to be just 'supernatural'. Mining complex seems a good guess, especially given all the earth moving shown in these images;

          Unseen Beast Brutally Killing Dogs in Missouri Town

          EXCERPT:
          ...
          This animal seems to attack for “sport.” It does not drag off or eat whatever it attacks but just leaves it to die. We are concerned about letting our dogs (or family members) spend time outdoors, especially at night, although these attacks have been at all times of day. When our family and grandchildren were here for the holidays, all were uneasy about going out and for good reason. Some neighbors have small children (smaller than these dogs), and are concerned about allowing their children outside to play until we know this thing is gone.

                    Some other explanations for stuff, especially "machined metal" found in coal;
                    1) Hoax or faked - an obvious "go to" for some.
                    2) Evidence of long, long, ago past civilizations or earlier sentient species, or that "humans" been around for lot longer than thought.
                    3) Some form of geological activity that briefly opens deep fissures in the crust, allowing things to fall down dozens to hundreds of feet of strata, then the fissure closes, leaving the object "encased" in a seam of coal.

                    OR .....

                      Where the hell do these scandal rags get their "experts"?!

                      Top photo, normal crystallization although there is nothing to indicate that this is aluminum.
                      Bottom photo, tool marks from excavating machinery.
