  • Looking for accounts of Futa Pass

I posted this in the WWII forum, as well, but thought this forum might be more appropriate.

I'm interviewing a WWII vet who fought in the German army and was captured near the Futa Pass, part of the Gothic Line, in October 1944. He was only 17 at the time, and doesn't remember exactly what division he was part of. He believes it was the 98th Infantry Division. The 98th was in Italy in late '44, so he may be right, though the division arrived after he said he arrived. He could have been attached as a replacement when they were put into the line. He doesn't remember much of those specifics. Anyway, I'm looking for first-hand accounts from the fighting at Futa Pass that may help me piece together what was going on, what units were engaged, etc. Anyone know of any?

    Thanks,
    Whit

I take it he doesn't know his regiment either?

Does he remember who he was captured by? Does he remember his service number? Date of capture? If you can cross reference these against relevant Allied army records, it should confirm which unit he was in.
