While I highlight in personal books and write marginalia, I do not like library books that have been previously highlighted nor contain marginalia.

On the other hand, I enjoy reading maraginalia written by the scholastic and famous for insights to their idiom of thought.

I was shown a library book where someone had obsessively crossed out every sentence containing the word "evolution" and added citations to biblical verses and lots of exclamation points and "Ha!"s (or whatever the plural of "Ha!" is) in the margins. Oddly enough references to "natural selection" did not attract the same ire.

That's a "no" from me on writing corrections in library books. Having a pen and the will to deface public property doesn't necessarily translate into intellectual authority. Quite the reverse . Use a bathroom wall or building like a normal vandal. At least then it can be washed off.
