  • Secretary of the Navy

Does anyone know if there has ever been a Marine appointed Secretary of the Navy? (Or a Navy man as Secretary of the Army, for that matter. )

The 73rd and current SECNAV Gordon England comes from the defense industry. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA. Prior to joining the Bush he was Executive VP at General Dynamics from 1997 to 2001. He has never served in the Armed Forces.

It will take a while to research the rest of them.

      Thanks for the info!

You don't have to research it; I was just curious if anyone knew.

In fact, no military experience is required to be a service secretary, since such appointees are essentially bureaucrats.
