Sorry about the long bump, but I am very curious and have alot of questions. Would the Engineer Squads in the Combat Mobility Platoon, be a squad of infantry soliders trained in demolition and mine laying and the such?

So now we have the major equipment of the Company, what is its personnel breakdown? How does this Company compare to the previous Engineer Company that was part of the Engineer Battalion attached to each Brigade?

Are there any extra officers, or NCOs? Are there enough people to do the job assigned or will there have to reinforcements? Remember there will be guys sick, on leave and in school!

I noticed when the Light Infantry Battalion first came on line the Battalion had far fewer Enlisted Men, but more Officers than the old Infantry Battalion (750 to 500 or so totals).

          Rame,

I got another question. Is this Engineer Company for Stryker Brigades? If it is not, I question whether Strykers are needed for Engineers. If it is for Heavy Brigades the M-113 would do and is already paid for or M-2 Bradleys. The Stryker is very expensive and the Engineers have gotten along fine for years with M-113s and trucks. What purpose does all the electronic equipment serve if they aren't putting it in Bradleys and Abrams?

Stryker Engineer units units an Engineer variant. The electronics serve to keep them aware of where everyone else is as well as keeping all blue folks aware of where the engineers are. The chasis is the same to reduce the logistical burdon.

But Dennis, the Engineers got along before without such precise knowledge. What is to keep Colonels from using them as extra Infantry, instead of Engineers? Before the Bradleys were bought in enough volume, Engineers used to travel in Dump Trucks and other EN vehicles. We have already paid for the M-113s and Bradleys, why do we have to buy new Strykers? We can put the system in the older vehicles for a much cheaper price as well.

                    Rame,
please shoot me an email so that I can seen to you the FKSM 71-8, Brigade Combat Teams. What you posted is for the Stryker Brigade Combat Team Engineers which is "SBCT:. Your subject shows "IBCT Engineers" which is the Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The IBCT does not have any Strykers in it.

Colonels that want to be generals a smarter than that. It is about logistics and economy. Less parts to lug around, less specialist mechanics, etc. We got along just fine before precision bombing which is very expensive but we are not going back. We got along well before Blufor tracker too....but we not going back to not having it too.
