  • Reenacting Sea Lion....

Can one reenact something that didn't happen? It didn't happen? Well, in a way a lot happened even if the ultimate part never came off - the invasion proper.

Or what says about the all the British and German preparations....? The constructing of the British defense lines and the collecting of the invasion fleet in the French ports across the Channel. The training and exercises on both sides. RAF Bomber Command's nightly cross-Channel raids, the German minings of the Channel approach routes and the massive heavy coastal artillery build-up. Gøring's air offensive to make the German preparations unnecessary.

In 2015 75 years shall have passed since this drama played out on both sides of the Channel. Could it be reenacted in any way?

While nothing is decided on my side I do have a plan brewing of sorts. I am working on a much expanded (no, it cannot be improved upon......) version of my recent book on Operation Sea Lion and in that context I hope to have my former Swedish minesweeper ready for a trip to England in September 2015. Yes, it would hopefully work as a PR stunt for my book but is as much of personal interest on the subject. Meet up with enthusiasts on "both sides" and - have a nice journey. If anybody is interested I would appreciate any feedback on cooperation on such an event. Totally non-committal, of course. I would also appreciate information on any similar initiatives on the subject.

Picture of my potential "Channel destroyer" attached....still a lot of work to be done.

    Fred

Sept. 17 - 72 years since Hitler postponed Unternehmen Seelöwe, at first till October, then gradually longer and longer.

          3 years to go.......

I once re-enacted the Dams Raid in our baffroom. A 1/72 Lanc, complete with real doody spotlamps, that worked at a scale 60ft. Guy Gibson's Lanc thundered down the baff, through a hail of bonfire night sparklers and dropped a bouncing bomb slap bang between the taps, before making a full boost power climb to avoid the towel rack.
All sounds a bit immature and daft compared to Leanducky's master plan though, dunnit?

Pot the Red, anybody, but you and Der Dook, ever read that masterpeece wot you rote?

The long toll of the brave
            Is not lost in darkness
            Over the fruitful earth
            And athwart the seas
Hath passed the light of noble deeds
            Unquenchable forever.
