  • Military-themed RPG's

I've only found one put out by Palladium called Recon. Im still trying to adapt to conventional fantasy ones such as D&D.

Does anyone know of any others?

Twilight 2000 may be the most memorable one, as far as I know. I'd still be playing it, if I had a group interested.

    Take a look here .

I tried, but your link is "blocked in accordance with 8th army policy"
like most sites I try to go to. The joys of using a govt computer.

I remember seeing it in the stores back in the 80's but thought it was a strategy game of some sort. I always saw it with the Avalon Hill games and the sort.

Check out the Modern Rules Set for D&D that will make it easiest for you to convert. More Sci-Fi would be StarWars. I have successfully adapted AD&D 2ed. To a modern setting. But all in all your best bet if you want a true RPG and not sonething more strategic is The Modern Rules Set for D&D. Any Gaming shop should carry it. At least most of the stats for weapons etc are already done for you. Just don't try to use it for Large battles where it can get complicated.

I always found millenniums end a very good military RPG, it has very good character creation and combat rules.
It is just hard to find a copy, since it isn't printed anymore...

We adapted GURPS for both Twilight/Merc and Millenium's End (ah... the memory of counter-boarding a French corvette, throwing a claymore on the bridge, and closing the door). It's got quite an extensive array of books that try to give you everything you might need. TW2000/Merc2000 is a good system, but a little restrictive and outdated. ME is an awesome setting, but a downright un-fun system IMO; extraordinarily accurate and results-oriented when wounding, but really quite a pain in figuring out the where and what effects. I don't care for the d20 system at all, but I know it's got some good game worlds for it.
If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

Personaly I don't care much for the d20 system either but to find much else after WotC flooded the market is pretty tough. I'm still playing AD&D 2ed. I feel its just the best all around system. Just thought of anouther game that might be of interest to you. Shadowrun. More tech and sci fi but it might get you what you need.

www.peginc.com Weird Wars: Blood on the Rhine. You can always leave the Weird out. It is d20 I am currently running a hypothetical Sea Lion campaign with the party as a British/American Battlegroup. (LONG STORY!). My dad is running two campaigns, one with us as the Main characters from the Sven Hassel series (check out my thread in the WW2 category) and a Pacific one. I actually wrote up a set of rules for more German vehicles and they put it on their site.

                    My God!
I thought I was the only one who's read any of those?
Have you ever seen the movie?

That would be rather cool. Have the penal brigade team up with Otto Skorzany......

Check out the Thread I got running on the WWII section then. I'm going to try to get people interested. The movie had its merits and demerits. But the books are all going back to print!

Twilight 2000 - I've been playing it for years.

It is by GDW, which either went out of business or was bought. So I'm fairly certian that the bokks are no longer available via retail. You may find them in a hobby shop dealing in used or, oddly enough in a used bookstore. I believe I have all the books (25-30). I've even tried to integrate another GDW game, Harpoon, into T2000. Not perfect, the scales are quite different. Hope this helps

Actually the TW2000 was re-printed and released as large softcover 'textbook'-sized manual. If I recall, there's at least two books out by now and you should be able to find it at retail stores.

The world just ain't what it used to be... hehe... with no Thanksgiving Day Massacre and resulting collapse of civilization, I still have to work for a living and pay a mortage now
