  • paintball or airsoft

hello all. I'm thinking of getting a new hobby and was wondering what the pros/cons are of each. Please feel free to post your thoughts on the differences of paintball/airsoft and why you prefer one over the other.

And if you know any facilities or leagues for either in the Atlanta, GA area.

    Thanks!

The neighborhood kids do Airsoft, which is fine with me because I don't want to have to wash the paintball paint off of my house

Not sure about costs of paintball, but the running costs of airsoft is really low. Batteries are rechargable, and BB's cost like £8 for 3000 or more.
For me the big difference between paintball and airsoft is that airsoft tries to go with a more realistic approach to the game, with the guns looking life-like and wearing combats. Paintball seems to aim more for a game-like approach with the paint and the kits they wear.
Other than that airsoft relies a lot more on people's honesty (you can't always see if you've hit someone, unlike getting paint over yourself).
Personally I find airsoft much more fun.

Paintball is very much divided into two camps, the "bling-fling-ers" who look like they should be on a BMX track and have all the tactical insight of a..... well something with sod all tactical insight.
And then you have the folks like me who like to don the camo, chest rigs, vests and reasonably realistic markers like these.

        Is damned expensive though.

best thing to do take a few mates along to your nearest sight and see if you enjoy it first.

Oh and if you do go paintballing make sure you invest in a decent pair of gloves, preferably with some kind of kevlar in them. Getting hit in the nuts is nothing compared to having the skin on your knuckles removed on a cold winters day in Scotland

If you do get into first bit of kit you want to buy is a good mask with a fan to stop the visor steaming up but you can spend all your hard earned cash if you like moding your marker with graphite barrels, 4X scopes (no good for aiming but it makes identifing buggers hiding in ferns so much easier) and even compressed O2 instead of CO2 for that "smokeless" effect.

If I wasn't broke and expecting a kid I'd be out there every chance I got

If I were into that sort of thing, I would go Airsoft. Its based on an honour system and the scenarios are Mil Sym.

Airsoft. No mess, more realistic play. Also, the guns look cooler and can also be mounted up on a wall as a display piece instead of buying a $1000 real steel gun.
