      The crew of the PE would never strike and allow herself to be captured no matter what. The Bismarck herself had an opportunity to surrender towards the end and potentially save hundreds of lives but her crew decided to scuttle preferring to die. Same behaviour was exhibited in ww1 when the crew of the Lutzow preferred to drown rather than risk being captured by the RN as they were fleeing Jutland. German sailors tended to be fanatics.

        Was this the choice of the crew or the senior officers?
