Because it is infinitely superior to the Defiant, Battle and Whirlwind and much easier to design, produce (in Britain and abroad), maintain and train crews than 3 aberrations.
The puzzling fact is that RAF requested, engineers actually designed and factories actually produced a twin seat fighter with a four gun turret (much more fit for cartoons than the F5F), a 3 seat bomber with a single engine (a larger crew than a Mossie or Beaufighter, but with half the power, so it made an oustanding target, whose loss cost 3 aviators) and a twin engine fighter with engines known to be faulty and less powerful than the excellent Merlin (which was liberally wasted in the 2 previous aberrations). Kafka himself could not have written a more surreal situation.
