  • For You Marines (and everyone else)...

This is a quote from the Demontech Military Fantasy series that is ritten by David Sherman (A former Marine who also co-writes the Starfist series)

A Fantasy description of a Modern Marine:

...It was a man in a fighting crouch. He spun to face one way then another until he saw no one advancing to attack him. Then he stood so erect he might have had a spear for a spine. He was a man such as none of them had ever seen. It wasn't his near impossibly erect posture or his obvious musculature. It was his resplendent garb- a tunic of blue of the deepest sea and trousers the blue of the purest lake. A bloodred strip ran down the outside of his trouser legs. Each of his upper arms was adorned with three inverted V's over two saucer-curves with crossed, crossed....somethings in between. Those adornments were in the cloth-of-gold mounted on scarlet. His lower left arm bore four diagonal cloth-of-gold stripes on a scarlet backing. A panoply of rainbow-colored ribbons supporting dangling medallions adorned his left breast, and other strips of rainbow hue were on his right. Golden emblems glittered on the tunic's high collar. Gloves of the white of new fallen snow covered his hands. A stiff billed hat sat squarely on his head, its crown as white as his gloves, its flat top slanted back from a beak, and the whole top stood out around like a halo. A gold emblem sparked so brilliantly on the front of the hat, that none could make out any details. The bill of the hat and his shoes were leather that shone so brightly they might have been polished obsidian. An ornately guarded saber hung in a polished black, gold-toed scabbard at his side; no one thought to wonder why he hadn't drawn it when he first thought he might be attacked...
    Your recruiting poster marine right?

The book series is pretty good for a "Military Fantasy" (Never heard of that genre before) and me and my dad have been reading them as they came out...

    THE MARINE/HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY ALL

    THE MARINE
This is a poem being sent from a Marine. For those
    who read it, his letter
is at the bottom of this page to his dad. It makes
    you truly be thankful
    for all of our troops.
    THE MARINE
    We all came together,
    Both young and old.
    To fight for our freedom,
    To stand and be bold.
In the midst of all evil,
    We stand our ground,
    And we protect our country
    >From all terror around.
    Peace and not war,
    Is what some people say.
    But I'll give my life,
So you can live the American way.

    I give you the right
    To talk of your peace,
    To stand in your groups,
    And protest in our streets.
    But still I fight on.
    I don't bitch,
    I don't whine.
I'm just one of the men
    Who is doing your time.
    I'm harder than nails,
    Stronger than any machine,
    I'm the immortal soldier,
    I'm a U.S. MARINE!

    So stand in my shoes,
    And leave from your home.
Fight for the people who hate you,
    With the protests they've shown.
    Fight for the stranger,
    Fight for the young,
    So they all may have,
    The great freedom you've won.
    Fight for the sick,
    Fight for the poor.
    Fight for the cripple,
    Who lives next door.

    But when your time comes,
    Do what I've done.
For if you stand up for freedom
You'll stand when the fight's done.

HEY DAD, DOWN HERE. Do me a favor and label this
"THE MARINE" and send it to
everybody on your distribution list. Even leave
this paragraph in it. I want
this rolling all over the U.S. I want every home
    reading it. Every eye to
see it. And every heart to feel it. So can you
    please send this out for
me? I would but I am sorta on the USS SAIPAN and
    my e-mail time isn't that
long. You know what Dad, I wondered what it would
    be like to truly
understand what JFK said in his inaugural speech,
    "When the time comes to
lay down my life for my country, I do not cower
    from this responsibility, I
welcome it." Well, now I know. And I do, Dad, I
    welcome the opportunity to
do what I do. Even though I have left behind a
    beautiful wife, and I will
miss the birth of our first born child, I would do
it 70 times over to fight
for the place that God has made for my home. I
love you all and I miss you
very much. I wish I could be there when my wife
has our child, but tell her
that I love her, and Lord willing, I will be
    coming home soon.
    ~SEMPER, FI.~ ~AARON~
*Please KEEP AARON AND HIS WIFE AND HIS UNBORN
    CHILD IN YOUR PRAYERS!

      Semper fi!

For all of the cliches that have been around since the first two people got together to fight for a cause, all of which are based on some fact, nothing compares to actually being in the shoes of someone serving to defend the rights and freedoms of another, and only asking for acknowledgement, not even thanks, but at least recognition of the service, and in many instances the sacrifice.

Retreat hell, we just got here. Every Marine, a rifleman.

Never let the facts get in the way of the truth.
