  • Prototype Gatling guns first field test saves Alamo

On the morning of February 6, James Fannin leeds 320 men, 4 cannon, and two new repeating guns acquired by Sam Houston from Gatling as well as several supply wagons on the 90 miles (140 km) march from Goliad to the Alamo. They make good progress and are fully deployed long before Santa Anna arrives. The shock and carnage brought by the new guns drives the Mex back across the river.
