Again, the German war development was two years ahead of historical development

This alternate scenario assumes the Hitler had what he needed where he needed it to succesfully ambush Anglo/French bases. And that the west was following its normal military production.

The problem with that is that is that it totally ignores the whole dogma of the royal navy: that it was equal to the next two biggest navies combined. We simply would not let Germany build an even bigger navy (in defiance of the Washington treaty) without responding in kind.

It also ignores the fact that Britain was absolutely bristling with coastal defences. In WW1 German ships bombarded the east coast of england and we've never forgotten it. Virtually evey medieval castle on the British coast (From Falmouth in Cornwall to Tynemouth almost at the Scottish borders) was equipped with a huge range of guns- everything from pom-poms to 14 inch naval guns. Ever since the Spanish Armada Britain has been obsessed with invasion and we've been building and updating coastal forts ever since.

Do some research on the Geography and defences of Skapa Flow. There's a reason why it was the main UK naval base from WW1 onwards. Even in peace time between the wars it was mined.

No one in England thought that anything like Operation Cerberus could work

Hitler had a flare for the dramatic and a staff that could usually pull it off, and this was a pre war strike with staff and defenses minimal.
