    The Russians did pull out of Austria I think, and also northern Norway too for that matter.

      It certainly wouldn't be Patton who took Berlin. He was too far south.

      IIRC the 83rd infantry and 2nd US armored division reached the Elbe river and established bridgeheads. Eishenhower ordered them to stop there. In theory there was nothing stopping them from taking Berlin. The allies also planned an airdrop into Berlin.

      Read any good book on the Battle of Berlin for the details.
