  • A worse Arnhem

Is there any plausible scenario whereby the 30,000 airborne troops dropped behind the German lines could have been all cut off and destroyed, whether by German luck, skill or advanced information?

Was there a contingency plan if XXX Corps' advance had been stymied at the outset, for the airborne troops to fight their way back to Allied lines?!

What would have been the effect on the war and morale of the loss of the Allies top three divisions?

Might have been possible if every bridge on the route was demolished in time.
The first objective at Eindhoven might have rescued, but the more distant drop zones might have been wiped out.

I don't know if I would call them the top 3 Allied divisions. Yeah, they had a special skill set but they could only be used for short periods before withdrawal, unlike infantry or armor divisions.
Also, one of the divisions was pretty much destroyed and since the Arnhem bridge wasn't taken, the Allies just went back to Plan B.
