  • Lincoln Loses

This is every Southerners dream...or is it?

Abraham Lincoln won the presidency with one of the lowest popular vote pluralities (not a majority) in US history -- in fact he got no votes at all -- not one -- in seven Southern states. There were three other candidates:

    John C Breckinridge (Southern Democratic)
    Stephen Douglas (Northern Democratic)
    John Bell (Constitutional Union)

What if one of them had achieved more electoral votes and won the election?
    • Would the young Republican Party have survived?
    • What would have happened to "Honest Abe"?
    • Would there have been a Rebellion in the South?

For info on the parties, their platforms, etc., see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._pr...election,_1860.
