  • What if John Hancock had been Commander-in-Chief?

    Hello,

What if John Hancock had been Commander-in-Chief of Continential Army instead of George Washington in Revolutionary War? How would it have turned out? Would there still be America we can be proud of or being defeated and brought under by the British forces?

    What an intriguing concept.
With what little I know of John Hancock, I would say he first of all, would be very popular with his men. I believe he disliked the British rather strongly. I'll bet he would take risks as a commander.
I think the Americans would have won with Hancock as commander. I'm assuming he would have been wise enough to listen to his subordinates one of which would have been George Washington.
    America is a special place.
    We would be proud.

I read Hancock's biography in vain looking for any military experience. What credentials would he have had as a military man? While he may have been able to motivate his men (I'll take Slug's word for it), it was a near-runt hing for a man with Washington's military experience -- I don't see Hancock or any other politician being able to pull it off.

I suspect if we had gone with Hancock, I'd be licking a picture of Queen Elizabeth II to mail a letter and voting Tory.
