Young Anakin was also another ploy to groom a generation of kiddie fans to grow up basically at the same rate as the characters while the movies were filmed and produced. All to the dismay of the old fan base.

The loyal fans that started with the first movie released just cannot stop complaining about the movies going commercial even though they were themselves caught up in the greatest commercial movement that changed Hollywood forever. They are angry that Star Wars is more than just a cult movie that only they somehow discovered.

    And oh yeah, Ewoks suck!!!!

But changing a director would not have matter that much, unless said other director was able to convince Lucus that Ewoks sucked!!!!

Ewoks may look cute, but they are evil. At the end of the movie, the Ewoks were clearly depicted as tortures of captured Imperial Stormtroopers. They are a superstitious lot that worship a false god, prone to violence and will steal food from lost travelers.
Lynch was talking about Lucas showing him wookies. I don't think he ever talked to anyone about Ewoks minus the final director.

You are refering to those uber geeks, the ones who threw a fit over computer graphic Yoda vs puppet Yoda? "Fake! Fake!" I think those five guys were also unaware of the other 410 folks in the theatre who thought SW was great fun, gave it all the serious consideration it deserved & did not sweat the details. SW had a strong publicity campaign & drew in large crowds. That summer we we more than a bit bored with the stodgy stuff Hollywood was distributing that year. SW was a refreshing novelty, and I guess those cult genre fans were oblivious to the crowds in the theatres.

Looking at YouTube out takes of Ewoks I'm at a loss how Cronenberg would have handled them Made them overtly horrifying in some way I'd guess.

    Scary Ewoks?

Given the underlying theme in Cronenbergs work of losing control over ones self, and physical body transformation, you would think the Sith Lords Vader & Palantine would experience more obvious physical effects from association with the dark side of the force. Maybe the same for the Jedi as well?

Some one told me the Cronenberg selection is a error & David Lynch was the guy who turned it down. If so then what might we see with Lynch doing the directing?

  • David Croenberg Directs Return of the Jedi

    This from Wiki:

At one stage he was considered by George Lucas as a possible director for Return of the Jedi but was passed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Cronenberg

...no judgement here on accuracy of that wiki entry. However, WI Lucas had worked out the details for Cronenberg to direct Return of the Jedi? What major stylistic changes would we expect to see?
