    IIRC she lost most electrical power but was still underway.

      Correct, the propulsion system was still operating & there was steering. The electrical failure affected a lot of other systems, but not the boilers, turbines, ect... Also the electrical power was restored in just a few minutes.

      Hornsficher in 'Ship of Ghosts' refers to a japanese report on the torpedos fired in the battle of Sunda strait. 84 torpedos were fired & seven or eight hits recorded. this was at relatively close range. Also five of the hits were fratricidal on five Japanese ships. The two Allied cruisers, Houston & Perth, were hit by either two or three torpedos.
