  • 1993 Task Force Ranger reinforces 149 BC Carthage.

    149 BC
Scipio Aemilianus and Manius Manilius commanding a force of 80,000 infantry and 4,000 cavalry.

    Vs.

Hasdrubal the Boeotarch commanding 90,000 infantry defending 410,000 civilians.

Maj. Back to serious topics again?

The Romans will win. They have the numbers, and their pila are very dangerous against aircraft. I've seen one take out a fast moving TIE Bomber as it was pulling away from a bombing run.

Scoprions can punch straight through the armored vehicles at a distance of nearly 10000 yards. Roman infantry wielding gladii can also carve through armor, and they are experts in hand-to-hand fighting, each man has 4 arms.

Roman scuta are impervious to modern arms fire, and are proof against shots up to 10.5 cm in size an power.

As the Rangers attack they are unaware that coming from their rear echelon is a legion of Zulus, led by Chuck Norris, who has a grudge against the Rangers for rejecting his application many years earlier and now he is out for blood.

          Oh, the brutallity.

Totally unrealistic... Norris' grudge is against Delta, not the Rangers...

Well, thanks. This is a totally unworkable scenario now.

No, didn't you see the movie? Norris is Delta, the operators are just bits of his shadow he details off to deal with minor issues.

Trying for a moment to treat this like a real counterfactual:

The Rangers, under the guise of protecting the innocents, hammer the Romans with Minigun and HMG fire, forcing them to retire the field, and the whole region, utterly defeated before they even come to grips with their enemy.

After this, there's a split. The Carthaginians either convert Gen. Garrison to their cause, and go back on the offensive, using their newfound weapons and warriors to regain territory and assail the Iberian and Italian penninsulas. The Romans revert to Fabian warfare having little they can do in the field day or night. Casualties mount, but the weapons of TF Ranger prove insufficient to the task of taking down Rome's walls or gates, or covering well enough for the badly outnumbered Carthaginians to capture enough cities by storm to regain full initiative. In the end the gear breaks, the Rangers are slowly whittled down, and Carthage loses, just ten or so years later.

The other option is that Carthage realizes that the Romans have them wholly outclassed, and they need new plans. The Rangers, using their enormous hindsight, and their modern knowledge of military operations, train the Carthaginians in many tactics and strategies. They help build modern implements for farming, mining, and construction. The Carthaginian army is better organized and trained, making it more effective. A line of outposts is established to provide warning of any Roman incursions, and stocks of food are placed in strategic points to allow the army to deploy very rapidly. Knowing what is to the South, the Carthaginian/Rangers send expeditions to capture territory leading back to the Moroccan Coast, and fortify against likely landings. They then build naval vessels to bring in trade from the Sub-Sahara, and eventually from the Orient. Using ideas from the Rangers, Carthaginian ship builders build ships made for the open sea, and become even more prolific traders than the Romans, with ships able to run with the wind and outrun the Romans outside of the Med, and often within the Med. This brings them into contact with the Gauls, Britons, and Germanic tribes as they range northward along the European Coast.

In the End Carthage herself is likely destroyed by a massive Roman expedition, but Carthaginian culture, peoples, and states now exist in Sub-Saharan Africa, Northern Europe, and possibly as far as the Horn or India. A couple Hundred years later the Romans begin to run into these powerful trading city-states, and find each one of them a very tough nut to crack. An international governing body between the states means that they come to battle with the Romans, beat them back to Rome using enormous armies of mercenaries, and re-establish Carthage as their international governing headquarters....with bi-annual meetings of Congress representatives of each city-state to decide trade and legal matters that affect the whole of the Carthaginian Empire.

                  And treating it like fantasy:

After bean beaten by these men with flying machines and projectile weapons, the Romans develop their Eagle fighter program and begin to deploy Griffon Air Assault Infantry.

No. The Grudge is for not calling it ALPHA FORCE. Delta implies a 4th place ranking......and Chuck Norris could only place 4th if he cloned himself 3 Times!
