The APC is a maneuver element, not a fire element.
Not really, ATGs are far less numerous than MGs and rifles, not to mention indirect fire was the big killer of infantry. During Totalize and Tractable the British did studies of infantry casualties in unmechanized vs mechanized infantry units, and the infantry losses in mechanized units were far less. This led to the establishment of the Kangeroo units which carried the normally unmechanized men of regular infantry divisions into action.

Did the infantry fight from the open top Kangaroos?
If you can't set a good example, be a glaring warning.

I've always been curious about this. Since the mechanized infantry had the greatest attack responsibility, I always assumed that their losses would be very high. I know that Soviet Tank rider battalions suffered extremely high losses and the units were probably one of the least desirable places for one to be.

          T-34. Next question?

The Sherman Firefly was pretty decent too, as was the Comet.
