  • Tiger II "Königstiger" WW2 Footage

"Panzer Picture" has put together a video of these late WWII tanks which shows some nice rare footage. The background music is meant to give one the feeling that these tanks were invincible and achieved many successes in combat which is far from the truth. One example being the Ardennes offensive in which they did practically nothing except have mechanical failure or were abandoned for lack of fuel. A 65 ton tank guzzles lots of fuel which the Germans did not have in December 1944

I especially enjoyed the Allies looking at the many penetrating holes in the glacis of the beast and the shredded gun barrel on another.

Here is another video which states the problems associated with the Tiger II during the Ardennes Offensive:

Wrong tank, wrong place at the wrong time.
Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes? Who is watching the watchers?

I thought Jentz proved in his books that Tiger 2's were generally quite reliable?

There's some footage in this video I'm curious about, shown at 1:39: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha8CGw9nkTY

A burning Tiger 2 in a city with some soldiers hiding near it, and a sudden explosion. Seems like some very intense footage.

Footage shot in 1946 for the film 'Theirs Is the Glory'. Veterans of 1st Airborne Division returned to Arnhem and made a film about the battle. That Tiger was knocked out in Oosterbeek in 1944 during the real battle. In the footage two 'actors' throw a smoke bomb and dash past the tank!

The long toll of the brave
        Is not lost in darkness
        Over the fruitful earth
        And athwart the seas
Hath passed the light of noble deeds
        Unquenchable forever.
