  • P-38 found in Welsh Beach

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rged-seas.html

Maid of Herlach crashed in 1942. Looks like the salt water has left it in very poor condition. Don't know if it can be saved!

At least one has been restored and is back flying.

No different aircraft. The one that I referenced was found on Greenland along with 7 others iirc. The first one recovered is the one now flying.

Another interesting story about a B29 lost in Greenland and the attempted recovery, which unfortunately did not have a happy ending.

Nice to see another one found. Sexiest plane of the conflict imho.

It's a pity she'll probably never soar again.

Trivia note.......I saw this one fly at a Farnbrough Airshow a few years back, she was re built and in wondeful shape....flew like a home sick angle.....There was a good show on PBS about 5 years ago on the recovery and apparently there were 7 more of her kind down under the ice and " they " were trying to get sponsers to go after the rest.....There was also a "coffee table " book printed with all sorts of pictures....I think it was called "The Ice Princess".....or something like that....
