  • Best WWII battle and campaign atlas?

I am an avid student of World War II. When reading history – and battle/campaign descriptions – an atlas is a required tool. I have been looking for a good WWII military/battle/campaign atlas, but hasn’t really been able to find one. I am looking for an atlas with good overview maps, but also battle details. No accompanying text is required, since I will get that from the books I am reading (Currently R.B. Franks “Guadalcanal”). I hope you can provide me with one or two good suggestions.

    Thank you for your help.

I like the West Point Atlas of American Wars Vol. II best. I usually find it as a good start point and then drill down to the tactical level maps. ( I also like WP Atlas Vol I wars before 1900 and the Napoleonic Wars Atlas.)
Leadership is the ability to rise above conventional wisdom.

But is this atlas - like other Times atla - a combination of text and maps? Or is it maps only?

Do you know "Chronological Atlas of World War Two"? Any comments on this?

Both in great detail with a number of comprehensive charts and figures to go with.

Donald Sommerville's World War II: Day by Day is a good choice for this.
