    Any interesting tidbits from this action that took place on the Napoleonic Borodino (1812) battlefield? Did the soldiers/commanders note the location as historic?

    I seem to remember it was a scenario in the old Combat Mission game, iirc it was called "..Where ancestors rest." or something like it,

    I doubt the contemporary soldiers cared all that much, but it seems to be of some interest for reenactment :

      Yea, Borodino 1941 is mentioned in the period German newreel and also other barbarossa books.

      IIRC german armored units attacked the area.

            The 2.SS unit history should have content about this fight as they took heavy losses. On one combat day they lost 900 men.
