  • Nazi Germany: Eugenics and Economics

I'm looking for source materials to help me research how eugenics may have aided or hindered the Nazi state in economic terms.

In other words, were the various programs cost-effective or did they create financial problems?

I can see how money could be saved by removing burdensome members of the population, but I also can see how the massive system of elimination could be more costly than providing care.

Can anybody guide me to the appropriate reference materials?

Richard Evan's Third Reich series might be a good source on this.
History is not tragedy; to understand historical reality, it is sometimes better to not know the end of the story.

Wages of Destruction by Adam Tooze has a big section on the significance of food and Nazi policy.

Although not all are specifically related to the Nazis, here are a few websites to get you started.

Thanks guys, this gives me a running start for sure. The university library even has the Tooze book on the shelves.

Should make for some summer fun.

I recently saw a documentary on this on Netflix. They showed Nazi newsreel clips of propaganda selling the euthanasia program to the German public. They were definitely selling the euthanasia program as a cost savings to the German public over institutionalizing certain categories of people.
