            • 4. The Tampico Affair
(what does this have to do with WWI you might ask? Well it strained US-Mexican and US-German relations and some have attributed it as a factor leading to the later Zimmermann Telegram - source)

Ibis, those were great photos of the Tampico Affair!! I read about it once but had NO IDEA it was such a big deal.

I think right there you have the reason America did not enter the war sooner. We had stuff going on, serious stuff with Mexico. Couldn't worry about the Europeans at that point.

And it just kept going on: Pancho Villa and Blackjack Pershing riding in. U.S. Marines invading Haiti.

NOTE that Mexico imprisoned eight American sailors; this is very similar to what is going on with Pakistan right now, when they ignored diplomatic immunity and imprisoned an American who shot and killed robbers, supposedly. Very likely they were trying to rob him, I should think.

High-level aid talks have been cancelled last week; this too is an important incident.

Though I suppose "diplomats" from Pakistan who shot up American citizens might get in trouble also, here.

Frankenstein: do you notice that all the marching German buglers out in front of the troops are looking at that glum but attractive Belgian woman? Women don't like enemy invaders.........there are good reasons for that and it shows in your photograph.

But the Rasputin thing was probably true......................

He did stop the attacks of terrible pain and illness of hemophilia of the Crown Prince Alexei......

And he did say the whole war thing was a bad idea for the Tsar and Russia would lose.

Rasputin was incredibly creepy, but he had something.
