  • Bakers Dozen of Interesting and/or Little Known Facts about WWI.

    1. Western Front Explosion heard 140 miles away.
    2. Fodder was the number one import to France during the war
    3. China Labor Corp, 140,000 in France

    5. Germany used Spring Tyres on Bicycles

    8. The German attempt to supply East Africa by Zeppelin in 1917

    10. The youngest authenticated combatant to serve was only 12
    11. In the first year or so of the war most armies used single wire, ground return telephones and telegraphs. The other side could often listen in. Both switched to two wire sets like the British Telephone D Mk 3 shown.
    12.In the spring of 1915 the Belgian Army adopted khaki, not because it was the color of their choice, but because Britain could supply the enormous amount of cloth required to replace the existing colored uniforms.

    13. It was made an offence in London and many other parts of Britain to buy any one else a drink in a pub (No treating clause under DORA)
