  • Heroes and heroic deeds in WWI

    There is always place for heroic deed even in such war as WWI so it would be great if we could mention such events in this thread. I will start with some:

    1. Fortress of Osowiec. Famous "Dead Man`s attack".
    After failed attack on this fortress in 1914 German forces re-started siege in January of 1915 and siege lasted for 190 days. Germans used 4 "Big Berthas" and other heavy artillery against this fortress. On 6th of August Germans used poisonous gases and as defenders had no gas masks the effect of this attack was devastated. Right after this poisonous attack artillery bombardment restarted and then infantry assault started - 14 battalions of landwher were sent to attack whats left in fortress. They were counterattacked by ~60 half-dead, poisoned men of Russian 13th company of 226 infantry regiment and Germans did not stand such attack by "walking zombies" and fled in panic.
