  • Russian aircraft carrier explosion and fire

In keeping with recent naval tradition, the Russian aircraft carrier Amiral Kouznetsov caught fire while in port. Repairs and regular maintenance have apparently set off an explosion resulting in a fire while in port (Murmansk). One dead and one missing.

That ship is a magnet for bad luck.

it would be interesting to see some sort of chart plotting out how much time it has spent in port/repairs.

So, this is after the drydock collapsed on it... How... usual...

I think they better install breathalyzers for the shipyard workers...

Only in Russia does "Regular Maintenance" involve explosions.

They are just 'shock tests' that were not conducted during the original sea worthiness trials.

Is it quality control, poor crew training or both?

Probably "old ship" and "sloppy practices by civilian shipyard workers".

Here's a good video about the carrier, and possible outcomes for the Russian navy.
