  • Mig-29 "Famous Aces" Paint Scheme

Polish Air Force has implemented a new idea of decorating Polish Mig-29 with images of famous Polish aces from the Battle of England.

This specimen carries a picture of wing commander Marian Pisarek (3 January 1912 – 29 April 1942). 303 "Kosciuszko" Squadron logo in the center of the fuselage.

Or better, use a program like Irfanview to resize the photo at 800x600.

This is a really cool concept, I just think they should go with a solid color like white or maybe a red and white, the grey camo scheme throws it off and makes it look like a sticker just stuck on to an aircraft. Great way to show off their history though and motivate people to learn about their pilots.

That's because you don't understand the insane logic that is behind this - the aircraft is gray to reduce visibility in combat to begin with, but the pretty logos and portraits make it highly visible despite the low-visibility paint. Might as well string Christmas lights all over it, too.

Maybe lo-vis isn't as important as we've been led to believe. Maybe it could be polished aluminum with black and white stripes on the wing....

Well, usually those type of liveries aren't for combat use - they are used for public relations, demonstrations, morale, recruitment, and the like.

Like the Tiger Meet events when NATO Tiger Association squadrons send aircraft there - obviously those aren't combat liveries.

I'm sure if the $hit hit the fan these aircraft could be re-surfaced in a real hurry.
